IT SO HAPPENS THAT THE WORLD IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS
– In collaboration with Katarzyna Wąsowska
2017

The work is a record of paranormal phenomena which are accessible only to the ones who experienced them. We began our project with collecting stories about how people experience and remember supernatural events, that can not be fully explained: by talking, writing letters, browsing other people's albums, searching for archival photos. We used the stories as a base to create the images – a kind of visualisation of the experiences that carry the deepest emotions related to, inter alia, loss, desire, fear or longing. We aimed at creating a very subjective and non-chronological reportage. The work consists of photographs and videos documenting the essence of these experiences, and archival photographs or objects that, by getting entangled in a new context, become somehow a portal in time. The background of the stories is the representation of the various beliefs and symbols that relate to questions such as disease prevention, attraction of fertility, decision-making or warning against danger.

The project has been awarded: Grand Prix – Poznan Photo Diploma 2019 / Galeria Miejska Arsenał, Poznań
